    Hard-nosed Malaysia

    Weeks before the December 31 High Court ruling allowing non-Muslims to use the word Allah, rumblings were already growing in Umno that a power tussle at the very top - between Najib and Muhyiddin - may finally be breaking into the open.Two incidents fired the rumours. One was the sudden call by Defence Minister Zahid Hamidi - previously regarded as a Najib loyalist but lately believed to have switched over to Muhyiddin - for Gerakan to surrender the Penang BN chair to Umno. The other was the messy way in which Zahid chose to expose the theft of two jet engines from a military base.

    Both incidents embarrassed Najib. The Umno president is really not sitting as pretty as his minders have tried to make it appear. No doubt there have been gushing news reports and ‘independent’ polls that try to portray growing popularity, but the reality is that hard-nosed Malaysians have already had a whiff of the future and they don’t like what they smell.

    Bro,

    Kenapa you tanya soalan 'cepumas' ni? Takkan you tak tau? You mesti dah tau. Bagitau jer lah. No suspens pun. Just write the story.

    You think Air Asia would be effected ke with these kind of stories? I don't think so. Too many in power are under its spell. Even the media. Almaklumlah, ad money berjuta2. Sapa tak mau. Hutang sebesar gunung everest pun depa buat2 tak nampak.

    Bro,

    Creative accounting. MAS should also be scrutinised. Khazanah too. Khazanah said their assets went up 45% in '09. But in '08 they went down 38%. This mans a net gain of only 7%.

    I think other stock market investors did better than Khazanah.

    So Air Asia is no more majority Malaysian owned? I think the new shareholders got suckered.

    My gut feel bro : some chickens will fly the coop. take their money (or our money) and run. The airline can go to hell.

    I hear come March is when the chickens will fly. That is why they are all collecting worms now.

    This is a plane crash waiting to happen which i commented on last year but was shouted down by the know-it-all imbeciles who gloat that a non_malay had "shown 'em" so to speak. The warning signs are all there with regard to revenue stream, shrinking COPs and burgeoning debts denominated in Yankee dough. That could explain the plane deferments, the recent tete-a tete with Jetstar and the failed West Ham bid which floundered on a "show me the money" dare. A snapshot of AA's debts will give an idea of gremlins lurking under them rotting floorboards

    as of June 2007: borrowings (secured and unsecured) totaled : 2.5b

    By Q3 of 2009, the amount had balloned to roughly 7.2B a whopping +/- 300% increase

    with operating profits barely moving save for the smokes and mirrors of forex gains, deferred taxes, sudden windfalls etc, this venture built on debt steroids stockpiles is gonna belly flop real soon ( probably in 2 years or so). I dont think AA will be hit by fuel costs this year simply because the global economy will tank and fuel prices will not ballon like crazy. But then on the flipside, less people will travel and that will hurt AA real bad but being in the too big to fail category and having has been charlatans like a certain Transperancy Ramon (who is surprisingly opaque about the shareholdings thingy)might yet save this pie-in the sky from crumbling into pieces and leave a certain tony blowing bubbles in Upton Park.........

  11. Does it matter anymore as to who sold what? After all we sell our sand and anything and everything we sell,as long as some one connected is pocketing the money and then MOST IMPORTANTLY making sure that money stays abroad!! What with money changers sending out RM10 million on behalf of UMNO politicians, well, so it was reported! This country is being bankrupted from within. SO those who have have now got to preserve what they got. So they all buy assets overseas. Rocky, my advise to you, is to do just the same. This blog can be for the benefit of Malaysia, but just keep your money in safer places like Singapore maybe!! So if Tony is selling, what is the difference? So is everybody selling!!

    Bru,

    1. There's a possibility that the Malaysian shareholders are transferring their shares abroad;

    2.This could be a prelude to AirAsia being taken private (Like Ananda Krishnan taken Maxis and Media Prima taking NSTP private);

    3. It's common for majority and substantial shareholders to transfer registration of their shares abroad using nominees and trusties;

    4. They caould also be increasing their shareholding by mopping up shares when prices are low;

    5. When they have cornered the market for their shares, they will then do the MGO to take the company private;

    6. They will then sell part of the shares to institutional investors to make quick profits and cover cost of taking the company private. (Like what Ananda Krishnan did with Maxis);

    7. When time is ripe, they will return to Bursa Malysia and make IPO to raise new capital and transfer their debts to the suckers (like what Ananda recently did with Maxis);

    8. BRu, Malay Mail business should investigate this. I makes a good reading;

    9. This is the modus operandi of market raiders and manipulators -- sounds a bit like menipu later.

    KURANG 20 LORI BAWA SALIKA – AHMAD ZAHARI -melayau

    Kerajaan negeri Johor menafikan dakwaan Mahathir Mohamad tentang beratus buah lori memasuki Singapura pada setiap hari bagi menghantar pasir silika ke negara jiran itu.

    Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Kerajaan Tempatan, Perumahan, Kesenian, Kebudayaan dan Warisan negeri, Ahmad Zahri Jamil berkata, statistik Pejabat Tanah dan Galian (PTG) Johor dari 1 Januari hingga semalam menunjukkan hanya 149 lori membawa pasir silika ke Singapura atau kurang daripada 20 lori pada setiap hari.

    Mahahir berkata, Menteri Kerja Raya, Shaziman Abu Mansor menyatakan 500 buah lori dengan muatan pasir memasuki republik itu setiap hari namun rakan bekas Perdana Menteri itu memberitahu, jumlah sebenar adalah 700 buah lori.

    Menurut Mahathir, Malaysia sepatutnya berhenti daripada menjual pasir itu ke Singapura yang mahu menggunakan pasir silika bagi membuat mikrocip.

    Ahmad Zahri berkata, Johor sentiasa mematuhi ketetapan yang dibuat oleh kerajaan Persekutuan pada 30 Ogos 1997 yang mengenakan larangan eksport pasir.

    “Kerajaan negeri melalui mesyuaratnya pada 3 Januari 2000 telah bersetuju untuk menguatkuasakan larangan eksport pasir yang dikuatkuasakan kerajaan Persekutuan.

    “Pada 24 April 2002, kerajaan negeri juga telah menguatkuasakan larangan eksport bahan batuan (batu pejal) berukuran 9 inci ke atas,” katanya.

    Beliau berkata, pasir silika ditakrifkan sebagai pasir yang mengandungi 95 peratus minimum silika seperti yang ditentukan secara analisis standard.

    Ahmad Zahri berkata, pada masa ini hanya terdapat sembilan syarikat yang diberi permit untuk mengeksport pasir silika ke Singapura dan mereka dibenarkan mengeksport tidak lebih daripada 50 peratus hasil pengeluaran keseluruhan.

    “Sekiranya jumlah eksport sesebuah syarikat itu telah mencapai jumlah maksimum bagi satu bulan, mereka tidak akan dibenarkan mengeksport pasir silika itu lagi dan terpaksa menunggu bulan berikutnya,” katanya.

    Yesterday the Federal Court postponed its decision on the Anwar Ibrahim appeal for additional discovery by nine days to January 29th. This forces a one-week delay in the start of the sodomy trial to February 2.

    The Federal Court’s decision came as a surprise given its Monday morning rejection of a defense request to postpone today’s hearing.

    It has also led some observers to the conclusion that the Federal government, seen to be the unseen hand behind the prosecution of Anwar, has flinched.

    Since early December the Court has been seen to be on a fast track to start the trial on January 25th. Due process in the final appeal for discovery was almost cast aside in the interests of expediency and the scheduling today’s hearing was also regarded as fast tracking an appeals process which has favoured the prosecution at every stage.

    Some are asking why reject the defense’s request for postponement on Monday and then postpone the case two days later?

    Behind the scenes there is still little consensus on whether or not this trial will end badly for BN. Some in the ruling coalition believe a repeat of the 1998 Reformasi demonstrations is unlikely and a swift and clean conviction would elicit minimal public outrage. Others are not so sure, and are fearful that Anwar Ibrahim’s ability to mobilize huge mass demonstrations from behind bars is even greater today.

    Given the negative publicity that nation has endured since Najib’s premiership began, the country can hardly afford another major international fiasco.

    First was the blitzkrieg on Najib and his alleged ties to the Altantuya murder and submarine scandal. Subsequently there have been a number of embarrassing headlines including the women sentenced to caning for alcohol consumption, the cow head incident, and most recently the attacks on Churches and the quarrelling over the prohibition of non-Muslims using the world Allah.

    The United States issued a travel advisory to citizens traveling in Sabah, following the Church attacks. Its criticism of some Malaysian policies has been harsh in the recent past.

    Splayed across the headlines of the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and Financial Times, these images are wholly inconsistent with PM Najib’s 1Malaysia slogan and offer bad publicity for a nation whose economic livelihood depends on the continuous flow of foreign direct investment.

    With Anwar’s trial looming, it is accepted that there will be a heavy price to pay in the international community given Anwar Ibrahim’s impeccable networking with world leaders and the international media, the legacy of his botched 1998 trials and the dark cloud still hanging over Malaysia’s troubled judiciary since the Lingam tape controversy demonstrated pervasive corruption in the Malaysian courts.

    It is also believed that Prime Minister Najib has come under intense international pressure during his current road trip to end what is perceived as the ongoing judicial persecution of Anwar Ibrahim. Efforts by Malaysian ambassadors to justify the case have been largely rebuffed and some world leaders have made personal calls on the Prime Minister to urge him to change course.

    The postponement can therefore be seen in the broader context of the UMNO’s inability to commit fully to the political risk of Sodomy II.

    MUHYIDDIN BIDAS KERAJAAN PEMBANGKANG TIDAK BAWA KEMAJUAN – melayau

    Muhyiddin Yassin membidas kerajaan negeri yang dikuasai pembangkang selepas pilihan raya umum lalu kerana gagal memajukan negeri yang ditadbir menyebabkan rakyat tidak menikmati kemajuan dalam erti kata sebenar.

    Beliau berkata, hasil lawatannya ke beberapa negeri berkenaan baru-baru ini juga mendapati, mereka masih gagal untuk melaksanakan program pembangunan walaupun telah lama diberi mandat oleh rakyat.

    Sebaliknya kata beliau, kerajaan negeri pembangkang hanya lebih banyak berpolitik dan tidak mempunyai agenda tertentu terutamanya dalam soal membangunkan negeri mereka.

    Menurutnya, kerajaan Barisan Nasional (BN) lebih banyak berusaha untuk membangunkan rakyat dan tidak terlalu memikirkan mengenai soal politik.

    For all those yelling the "cheap fare mantra", the question here is not regarding fares or zionist ownership or anything remotely silly for that matter.

    The question is if AA falls in the "too big to fail category" and if thats the case, dont bawl and holler like some nappyless small fry wailing for his shit to be wiped off if the bailouts commence.Cos, I sure know of one such cretin here who is fond of whacking after the fact complete with his bright/dark side allusions. Seems to me that you are conveniently forgetting what Tajudin Ramli did to MAS (aka Malaysia Airlines).

    Now, why didn't anybody make a song and dance about how MAS had to be bailed (using public funds) out then?

    At least, the present Japanese govt has the guts to put it's flagship airline, JAL, into bankruptcy and restructuring, possibly eliminating some 10,000+ jobs at the airline.

    MAS? Tak boleh cut staff! Social obligation, mah. Too big to fail, lah!

    aiyah eddy, you should wait la that case will take another 5 years. And that snowball you are lamenting is "lacking" now, will be a BIG one. So just relax and enjoy the fun, as it unfolds on your mattress.

    By that time Najib will be out on his backside, even his India trip he had to cut short and "rush" back.

    aledi the Chennai "hero" Najib got movies being made and people are laughing:

    and it looks the top in umno is very shaky. Muhyiddin must be making moves to throw out Najib & the old man is backing him.

    Two months ago, Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor was quoted in various reports as saying that about 500 of the 1,000 Singapore-bound lorries each day carried sand. And mahathir is accussing the UMNO gormen of doing it.

    The cheap fares made many Malaysians travel abroad more frequently. Has any economist calculated the outflow of funds created by the cheap fares?

    The hotel accomodation and other incidental spendings overseas is definitely more than the cheap fares, which means outflow of Malaysian funds.

    It would be interesting to see what the balance of trade brings viz inflow of funds by inbound visitors.

    Can't believe I'm saying this - but I totally agree with your analysis. AA debt burden compared to revenue is unsustainable in long term. They are only getting away with because of deferred taxes and other freebies the govt is giving them like reduced airport taxes and other tax incentives.
    Tony has been very good at getting his way so far and I'm sure there is govt money being siphoned his way in the name of the national service ventures he's doing.

    Woman, son traumatised after car crash

    KUALA LUMPUR: A woman on the way to the mall with her three-year-old son suffered a traumatic experience when a car being pursued by the police crashed into her MPV.

    She spent several tense moments holding her breath, expecting a shoot-out as the cops surrounded the car with their guns drawn. “I quickly grabbed my son and ducked low, expecting shots to be fired,” said the 37-year-old woman who wanted to be known only as Michele.

    Michele was driving her Toyota Avanza along Jalan 1 Chan Sow Lin here, around 12.30pm, when she saw a Proton Wira being chased by a police car heading towards her.

    The Wira slammed into her vehicle before two police officers surrounded the car, drew their guns and shouted at the two suspects inside to surrender.

    surrender is the key word here. the lady was of course expecting shots to be fired.
    cheers

    This what you call 'VooDoo' Economics. The maths do not add up . Has anyone in the regulatory industry asked how did Air Asia pay for all that purchase of new AIR BUS.If I am not mistaken they had palced an order for 50 A320.No pay landing fees to KLIA no pay money due to ERL from Airport Tax. And he is Entrepreneur of the Year.

    I pray to GOD that HE will give the wisdom to our leaders to do at the beginning what they will be forced to do at the end. So far we have been spared of natural calamities by GOD.When that happens we will have no choice but to be dependent on Foreign Aid if we do not put our financial house in order while we have the opportunity. The question is if AA falls in the "too big to fail category" and if thats the case, dont bawl and holler like some nappyless small fry wailing for his shit to be wiped off if the bailouts commence.

    =============

    ohh bailing out Perwaja Steel, MAS, Proton is okay & not too big?

    What's wrong with these retardees brain?

    I thought they hate bailouts.. but when it come to AA, they seem to be singing a different tune? Compromising for their beloved idol TonyF?

    Schizophrenic freaks..be consistent with your standing fuckheads..

    Who say only malay tycoons enjoy crutches..Malaysia is better off without Proton..coz with Proton we all end up with screwed up automotive policies & i'm being consistent about that throughout this blogsphere..(just distinguihing myself from you retardees) :)

    see also all those ahbengs who enjoy sugar subsidies, gas subsidies for powerplant, judi license and pariasamy & pakiamsamy who enjoy free satellite and tax waived cheap airline..hey, who actually fork out 'subsidizing' the cheap fare for AA anyway? Wonder how the company survived living without assets (aeroplane) all this while before recently acquired a few lately? ahh.. are those old planes belong to MAS? Did AA fork out any money for maintainence of the said planes? I bet they're leasing the planes at a very fucking cheap price that do not even justifiable for the actual cost. No wonder eh..never see any technicians or engineers job advertized by AA anyway..Pandai berniaga konon..more like pandai kelentong perasan bagus to me..

    ..|.,

    Cannot agreed more with what ex-bankers said..I do feel that these penipu lupa diri should be charged with treason..similar to those who sell sands masquarading as silica oxide...blow their brains out..

    Air Asia is a non glc concern. If it wants to sell its share to foreign investors, so be it. If it has breached any ruling or law i.e listing or something similar to the the previous FIC etc, I am sure the relevant authorities will look into it.

    The fact that is does not pay income tax due to the investment tax allowance granted to it should not be made an issue. Most 100% foreign owned MNC enjoy the same incentive. Some also enjoy pioneer status which. Some 100% foreign cpmpanies are also given partial exemption on their expat's personal taxation in addition to 100% tax holiday given to the company(i.e. OHQ incentive). SM

    From the financial reports that I have perused, it appears that MAS has total borrowings (short-term and long-term) of about RM1.42 billion and AirAsia has total borrowings in excess of RM6 billion.

    Of course, MAS is majority-owned by Malaysian institutions, such as Penerbangan Malaysia Bhd and Khazanah Nasional. So, can it be categorised as one of the "too big to fail" companies in Malaysia?

    It should also be noted that MA has just got the ok for a proposed RM2.67 billion rights issue to finance fleet expansion. MAS shares closed at RM2.76 on Bursa Malaysia yesterday.

    (Contrast this with low-cost carrier Tiger Airways, which just IPO'd on the Singapore Exchange and which closed yesterday at S$1.57 - RM3.77 - yesterday. Tiger's shares are trading at around 4.5 times NAV, compared with AirAsia's shares trading at around 1.5 times NAV).

    Separately, it was reported that AirAsia will launch six new routes to India, making a total of 10 destinations in India that the airline will operate to from Malaysia.

    Yeah right brader..they're not even a GLC and that even make it worse.. the main issue about AA is always their association & connection with those political & business con-men..

    so, are you saying malaysian just need to sweep all that under the carpet & shut the fuck up? these fuckers owed hell of sum to this nation & you fuckers are just gonna let them get away with the spoils easily? what a fucking screwed up brain you retardees are..ohh man..

    What the **** are you talking about "conversion"? I compared the total borrowings of MAS and AirAsia, both denominated in ringgit. Geddit?

    I pointed out that AirAsia has total borrowings, as per it's financial report, of more than RM6 billion. Are shareholders, analysts and banks comfortable with this level of debt? Why don't you tell us?

    In any case, for Tiger Airways, after it's recent IPO on SGX, the major shareholders are: SIA - 33.1 per cent, Temasek - 7.4 per cent, Ryanasia - 10.8 per cent and Indigo Partners - 14.5 per cent.

    Between them, SIA and Temasek have a 40.5 per cent stake in Tiger Airways. The last time I checked, both SIA and Temasek are run by true-blue Singaporean Chinese! And both are doing pretty damn good, I'd say. Wanna benchmark SIA against MAS and Temasek against Khazanah? Don't be shy, lah - let's see how a Malaysian GLC matches up against a Singapore GLC, both in the same industry - air transport. Or how a Malaysian SWF matches up against a Singapore SWF.

    And the fact that an expat gweilo like Tony Davis is the CEO of Tiger Airways is just another illustration of Singapore Inc getting the best person for the job, regardless of race or nationality. Like Magnus Bock (another expat gweilo) was chosen as the new CEO of SGX and Piyush Gupta (a onetime expat Indian who is now a Singaporean and who was at one time Citibank country manager for Malaysia) was chosen as the CEO of DBS Bank.

    Again, you wanna benchmark SGX against Bursa Malaysia and DBS Bank against Maybank or CIMB Group?

    Or, better yet, compare Malaysia Airports Bhd against CAG (Changi Airport Group). You hankering to be embarrassed some more?

    Seems to me that you are posting out of sheer desperation, regardless of the facts.

    Here's something for you to suck on - go figure out the PM's GTP (Government Transformation Plan) - and tell me where the racists and the rascals fit in.

    "Contrast this with low-cost carrier Tiger Airways, which just IPO'd on the Singapore Exchange and which closed yesterday at S$1.57 - RM3.77 - yesterday."

    Now about your fixation with Temasek etc. Hei, piece of shit, TEMASIK LOST A BUNDLE LAST YEAR, EXITED THE FINANCIALS:

    whih contains this gem that sums up Chingkie 'blitheling blilliance':
    "Like other investors enticed by the dramatic gains on offer in a late-stage bull market, Temasek - which is run by Ho Ching, the wife of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong - appears to have had the canny knack of buying right at the top of the market and then watching its investments slide in value."

    + here is another to show how Chingkie's pick the "best BLains" for the job regardless of race:
    "Despite the humbling of the one-time masters of the universe over the last year, Temasek has continued to recruit senior executives from Wall Street, bringing in Morgan Stanley investment banker Michael Dee in August and Rohit Sipahimalani, another Morgan Stanley banker, last month.

    LAST I HEARD, HO CHING WAS STILL LICKING HER CUNT WITH FUCKTHER-IN-LAW XPLORING HIS ARSHOLE INSTEAD OF HIS NAVEL and together they srarted the year with two bangs!!:

    a case of what my fuckther in law can lose, i can lose bigger..hahahahaha.....

    in between, Temasek went head hunting for a Gwailo "tyre king" to fix the broken hill wrought by its chingkie dogpoo but backed out after he probably unearthed something big:

    Now dont bluff us, you dint know that, cocksuckling chingkie boy. As for the comparisons with Khazanah,here is one ( as they say :slow and steady wins the race ):http://www.bernama.com.my/bernama/v5/newsbusiness.php?id=468364

    this must be running through your goddamn brains: aik, the Melayu bermaruah have trumped us the chingkie pigs AGAIN!!! How come ah?

    Dei pukimak bangsat, that is what we call innate brilliance, we dont brag but do our stuff silently with no amoral thieving chingkie around and Allah rewards us for integrity and hard work.

    and off tangent, see how communist style control works in a "democratic" state: "All institutions of the state are controlled by the ruling party including grassroots organizations. Lee himself admitted lately that “all CCs, CCCs and RCs are part of the PAP”.

    Now tell me Temasik Review is biased and run away and hide, arsewhoring pig!Seems to me that you are posting out of sheer desperation, regardless of the facts, AS USUAL THAT IS!

    P/S= Quote of the day from Asia Sentinel:
    "Singaporean government officials love to lecture their Malaysian counterparts on issues of transparency and governance. Quote: "Allah rewards us for integrity and hard work". Your words, not mine.

    "Integrity"? Tell that to the folks at Transparency International. At least, the govt seems to take their ratings seriously, what with the PM's latest KPIs.

    "Hard work"? Strange how it doesn't seem to reflect in Malaysia's international competitiveness rankings. You wanna regurgitate these rankings for us, just to refresh our memories?

    "If we don't do something extraordinary, something with full commitment, I'm worried we will be overtaken by other countries."

    Those are the PM's words, not mine. I guess that the PM has his own script and playbook, and they are definitely not what you and your intellectually-challenged brethren are salivating over.

    Which is why major investment incentives (both for foreign and local private investments) are expected be announced by the govt at Bursa Malaysia's 'Invest Malaysia 2010' conference at the end of March.

    You can wank yourself with your claptrap racist bilge, but the folks in Mida and the NEAC know exactly the state of the game and what Malaysia is up against - a huge budget deficit, brain and capital drain and intense regional competition.

    The PM himself is worried that Malaysia "will be overtaken by other countries." Let's see if you have the guts to stand up and post that he's got it all wrong.

    It's an absolute delight the way your arguments are begging to be squished.

    Let's see. For starters, the total Singapore stock market capitalisation as at end-January 2010 stood at S$664 billion.

    Now, what was the total market cap for all the companies listed on Bursa Malaysia as at end-Jan 2010? Can quote in ringgit, lah. No need to convert to Singapore dollars.

    Then, consider the end-Jan market cap for 3 companies in the Temasek stable: SingTel - S$47.9 billion; DBS Group - S$32.6 billion; SIA - S$16.4 billion.

    What are the market caps for their Malaysian equivalents - Telekom Malaysia, Maybank and Malaysia Airlines? Again, can quote in ringgit.

    (Or you wanna console yourself with the possibility that the ringgit is woefully undervalued, perhaps by as much as 50-70 per cent, against the Singapore dollar?)

    How can a country with a population of 5 million support a stock market with total capitalisation of listed companies at S$664 billion? Or have a telephone company with a market cap of S$47.9 billion or a national airline with a market cap of S$16.4 billion?

    At the very least, that should reflect on how Temasek Holdings and Khazanah Nasional manage the companies in their portfolios, yes?

    Because, dumkopf, numbers don't lie. Unlike racist crap which are big on emotion, but short, like dildos, on facts.

    Temasek vs Khazanah? More on this in a subsequent post. But here is a little something for you to chew on - which is more highly rated for governance and transparency by analysts, fund managers and international credit rating agencies?
