The Umno 4 who spoke out against their President

The gory details of last Thursday's meeting.
Who shot Pak Lah down at the Umno supreme council meeting last Thursday? According to The Star's Joceline Tan in today's report Pak Lah under pressure to exit, there were four of them: Muhyiddin Yasin, Rafidah Aziz, Shafie Afdal and - surprise, surprise! - Mat Taib.
I was told that Khir Toyo, one of the earliest in Umno to have asked for Pak Lah's resignation after the March 8 general election, was the one who had started the ball rolling during Thursday's supreme council meeting that pressured Abdullah to step down as the political situation is no longer tenable.
Annuar Musa was the lone voice supporting the President, and this was noted by blogger Sakmongkol AK47 in his An honorable discharge nonetheless:
How does Sakmongkol realise that Pak Lah is about to write his own Closing Chapter? ( the title of a book by Lord Denning). When Sakmongkol noticed that his loyal-to-a-fault, the true blue Abdullah loyalist Adnan Yaakob found himself on that day, deficient in trying to defend his boss. When you are no longer defensible by such a person, that means the end is near.
The Star is brave to report on the gory details of Thursday's meeting, but don't expect the editors of the other mainstream media to follow suit tomorrow. Perhaps theSun, on Monday.

  3. Ahirudin, you have mentioned TWO of Top Three political analysts that Malaysia is blessed to have: JOCELINE TAN The Great and SAKMONGKOL AK47 aka MAT TOMOI (ARIFF SABRI)

I've followed Joceline's writings since many years ago - when she was in NST before her `defection'.

This is someone "who has the edge" when it comes to writing political stuff. Once or twice, when she's "off-form", she might come up with "so-so" pieces (heartening for us mortals to know that even the very best, A1++ writers are prone to this too). But usually, her works are eagerly looked forward to.

Sakmongkol AK47 is a new name - for me at least. In fact, I've only started to read his posts since just a week or so ago. I had been curious about the strange name on the link here. However, I had only reached his site after reading a comment he had made at ELVIZA'S Write Away

And I thank my lucky stars that I did, for his blog (more like a "website that allows comments"; like mine too) is filled with excellent, high-quality and informative material and perspectives.

I've only managed to read a fraction of them - they aren't for "reading through quickly for the main points", but "things to savour". If only there were more Umno people like him! Heck, I might even be influenced into supporting it!

Both Ariff and Joceline have this in common (though the former is miles more intellectual and elegant): Their writing style is engaging ... no tacky use of "big words" to try and impress "us serfs"; and the flow is smooth and silky-fine.

I'm gonna start a Fan Club for SAKMONGKOL AK47! Oh, and for STOKE CITY too! YAAY!

Going by Mahathir's precedent, Pak Lah shud reopen investigation on Rafidah, which shud not be difficult to do as the AG Chambers had in fact recommended to Mahathir to act against her. Mat Taib also shud be investigated for his 3 million Aussie dollars scandal years ago. I'm sure Muhyiddin and Shafie too had some skeletons kept in the cupboard and can be discovered if enough efforts are made.

    Dear Bro,
You sometimes hear of this in the pubs only. Bottoms up! Bottoms up!

Yup, whats happening at the supreme council meeting is bottoms up. The voices of the bottom (grassroots) have finally reached the top.

    No Bottom.

    Dear Rocky Sir,

"Nothing is more un-prop-able than a falling government whose time has come."

"Nothing is more is unstopable than a new govenrment whose reign is around the corner."

We pray that we do not come to what has been described by Thomas Jefferson: "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure."

    Rocky Bru,

The Star reported that it was Hishamuddin Hussein was one of the 4 who asked Abdullah to go, but your blog mentioned it was Mat Taib.

  10. Most of the four were AAB's one-time staunch supporters.

The Star carried a half-page 21 paragraph story on page N4 NATION on Saturday 20 September 2008 as follows ...

MAIN HEADLINE: Pak Lah under pressure to exit

2ND PARAGRAPH: Umno supreme council members had reportedly told Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in their meeting on Thursday that the political situation was not improving and that he should consider an earlier exit.

  12. Need a perfect example of an ingrate? Look no further than Mat2 Taib.

Pak Lah rescued him from the political scrapheap with a Senatorship and Minister post. In gratitude, he did a Brutus on his benefactor. Wow! what a role model.

I'm not saying Pak Lah should stay though.
